Parental Notification

Parental Notification is the practice of notifying parents or legal guardians of minor students who violate a university alcohol or drug policy. Congress amended the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to permit this limited disclosure of information without the student's written consent on October 7, 1998.

In the fall of 2002, Baylor University made the determination to implement Parental Notification. To review the University's statement regarding notification, please select the link below:

Parental Notification

Students who are 21 years of age or older, are exempt from this specific form of parental notification.

Did You Know?

• In most cases, students are given the opportunity to tell their parents BEFORE parental notification letters are sent.

• 99% of parents surveyed said they would be disturbed if their son or daughter were drinking alcohol regularly.
