Hearing from Baylor Students

Quote on What a Baylor student learned from his/her misconduct...

One thing that pops in my mind is that nobody that is a student at Baylor University should take their institution and education for granted. This whole experience helped me realize that I attend one of the best universities in this nation and I have everything here that I need to start a successful life on my own. By making a mistake, anyone can risk giving up this privilege. I would advise students to please, please think before ever doing anything they wouldn't normally do, or that is wrong. The consequences could be great, and may not work in their favor. Baylor is here to keep you safe and out of trouble and to provide the best education of experience they can give. Don't take that for granted.

Quote on Alcohol use...

"I am the first to admit that I know all the consequences and I drank knowing what could happen if I were to get caught. However, I will also be the first to tell you that never in a million years did I think that I would get caught. It happens and it can happen to anyone, that is what I tell people who are considering drinking."

Never lower your standards to fit in with others, be patient and you will find where you belong.

Quote on Driving While Intoxicated...

I made the poor decision to drive after I had been drinking...it showed me how one bad decision can screw up the rest of your life...my life was turned upside down for almost three months...You can go from carefree, untouchable college student to being in jail, no driver's license for months, and many more incredibly bad things...not only are the consequences from the state terrible, but what you do to yourself in your own head will also just tear you up from the inside...you constantly are stressed and you think like, "I have to put DWI on every job application for the rest of my life."

Quotes on Drug use...

"Someone could have helped me by educating me on the consequences of being in possession of a prescription drug that doesn't belong to you. I was unaware that it was a felony, and I never imagined this sort of impact on my life."

"For incoming freshman and anyone else who just feels overwhelmed and vulnerable...I would encourage them to find happiness in themselves and to be proud of who they are. I think a lot of the choices you make in life depend on how you feel about yourself. Although others may be better at some things, I would encourage them to look at what they are good at. In the end, I would hopefully open their eyes to see that nothing good comes from drugs, drinking, partying, or anything of the sort and that true happiness comes from within."

Quote on Hazing...

"Anyone who teaches you to think that humiliation and degradation is okay, and teaches anything other than anger and shame, is wrong. I would tell them that this cycle is only stoppable when individuals begin to understand this, and begin to consciously decide to end this cycle."

Quote on Peer pressure...

"Instead of trying to earn their acceptance, I should have tried to earn their respect. I have paid dearly all throughout my life for not speaking my mind."

Quotes on Dishonesty...

"Every lie that I tell could be leading some spying non-believer away from Christ. All of which would be the last thing I would want to do, but yet the direct result of my actions."

"If I were ever given the opportunity to have to "do over," I would now realize the impact and importance of telling the truth. By me lying, I have not only caused myself and yourself a lot of extra trouble, but I would have also not demonstrated the Christ-like behavior that I need to present to help lead people to Christ."

Quotes on Pornography...

"Viewing pornography is a bad habit to have, it is a major drawback in your personal relationships."

"Just like smoking cigarettes, it is an addiction that people can only help you with by holding you accountable for."

Quotes on Inappropriate blogging...

"In that moment, I should've erased those words and cleared my blog of them. But, I didn't. For some reason or another, I never erased them and never thought they'd come back to haunt me or anyone else. Unfortunately it did, and I had to learn a hard lesson. What I post and write can affect others."
